Injury Ends the Rugby Championship and 2024 for Eduardo Bello

Eduardo Bello is out of the remainder of the 2024 Rugby Championship. The tight head prop from Córdoba was injured playing for Argentina against Australia in Santa Fé. Bello was a 46th minute replacement for Joel Sclavi. Injury saw Sclavi returning for Bello in the 72nd minute.

Bello was hurt in the 70th minute. A collision saw a teammate falling awkwardly onto Bello’s knee. He was injured at the time and carried off the field by a team medic and Puma Santiago Cordero. Bello was clearly in pain while leaving the field in Santa Fe.

Bello is facing between 6 and 8 months out of rugby. He suffered an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will undergo surgery. This means Bello will miss the Rugby Championship matches against South Africa in Santiago del Estero and Nelpruit as well as the November Internationals against Italy in Udine, Ireland in Dublin, and France in Paris.

Bello has been a regular in the team under Felipe Contepomi. He started against France in Mendoza and also in Buenos Aires, scoring a try in the latter. He started against Uruguay in Punta del Este. In the Rugby Championship Bello started in the win over New Zealand in Wellington and was a replacement against Australia in La Plata and in Santa Fe.
