Argentina XV Down Brazil in Entertaining Battle

The Argentina XV were 64-29 winners over Brazil  on Sunday. Played at the Estádio Du Cambusano in Jacareí, Argentina’s next-of-XV ran in ten tries while Brazil scored four. The match was World Cup Qualifying preparation for Brazil and an opportunity for Argentina’s home-based talent.

The Argentina XV featured Super Rugby Americas players from both Los Pampas and Los Dogos as well as Pumitas. The combination proved to be successful as the team won by an impressive scoreline.

Os Tupis lined-up with players of the present and the future. There were players from Os Cobras in Super Rugby Americas as well as opportunities for young talent and therecenly returned general Moisés Duque who plays in Portugal.

The home side scored first through hooker Henrique Ferreira. It came from an attacking lineout. The Argentina XV hit-back with force, running in three tries for a 17-7 lead. Winger Santiago Pernas scored the first of his three tries while flank Facundo García Hamilton and center Bruno Heit also went over.

Brazil’s second score came following the kick-off. With possession, Moisés Duque put Robert Tenório in to a gap and he ran 30 meters to score. It was a highlight of the half but there was still time for the Argentina XV to hit-back with impressive tries of their own.

Santiago Pernas scored his second, this time getting a good pass and showing tremendous strength to power over down the right wing. Strong ball-carrying from the backs contributed to Pernas’ second try while it was the forwards who helped enable the next. Hooker Boris Wenger went over after Gacía Hamilton had gotten to within metes of the try zone.

It took eleven minute of the second-half before further points were added. It came from a attacking scrum. The Argentina XV shoved Brazil backwards which saw N8 Juan Bernasconi picking up and scoring.

A promising Brazilian attack ended with Jerónimo Ulloa intercepting and running 80 metes to score. From there fullback Mateo Soler scored. The Argentina XV were rampaging had with runners to choose from. The Argentina XV were past 50 points and leading 52-12.

Brazil scored with eleven minutes remaining. An impressive lineout to maul score saw the Argentina XV pushed back 10 meters with Henrique Ferreira claiming a double for the match.

Brazil were not done yet and looked to run the ball out from inside their own half. A knock-on saw the Argentina XV passing left of Santiago Pernas to get the ball and sprint around the defenders to compete his hat-trick. Felipe Gonçalves and Ernesto Guidice scored final tries for their respective teams.

Brazil’s next match is against Chile on October 05. The vital fixture is a Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifier. Brazil defeated Paraguay in their prior qualifier while Chile are yet to begin theirs.
