Los Teros will play three test matches in Europe in November, confirms Uruguay expert Ignacio Chans. The matches will be part of the November 2024 Internationals. Los Teros will be up against familiar opposition from recent years. The test matches will see the South Americans facing Spain, Japan and Romania.
Matches venues and dates of the matches are forthcoming. However, the match has been confirmed. First, Uruguay will face Spain on the weekend of November 08-10 in Madrid. Second, Uruguay will travel to France to face Japan on the weekend of November 15-17. Third, Uruguay travel east to Bucharest to face Romania on the weekend of November 22-24.
Uruguay last faced Spain in 2020. The two test match series was split with one win each. Uruguay won the second test match 19-10 with winger Federico Favaro scoring all of Los Teros’ points. The teams have meet fourteen times. Spain won the first match 16-8 in 1987. The teams have won seven matches each.
Uruguay has played Japan five times previously in capped internationals. The first meeting was in Montevideo in 2005. Los Teros were 24-18 winners. The four subsequent matches were all Japanese victories. The most recent of which was a two-match Uruguayan tour of Japan in June 2022.
Uruguay also previously faced Romania in 2022. That year featured three test matches between the sides with Uruguay claiming two victories. There have been thirteen overall test matches between Uruguay and Romania. The first was in 2008 with Romania winning 10-6 in Bucharest. Uruguay has three wins, Romania nine and there was a draw in 2010.
The November Internationals follow Uruguay’s home matches against Scotland, France and Argentina in July. It means Los Teros will have matches against Tier 2 opposition in November. similarly, Chile will not face a Tier 1 opponent in a November test match. Chile will face Canada, the Netherlands and Scotland ‘A’.
Argentina has a three match tour in November. Los Pumas will face Six Nations teams Italy, Ireland and France in Udine, Dublin and Paris respectively.
