Costa Rica write history with win over Peru

History was made on Sunday. Costa Rica claimed a first-ever win over a South American opponent. Los Ticos were 27-26 winners over Peru. The match was played at the Estadio Nacional in La Sabana, Costa Rica.

Costa Rica overcame an 18-12 half-time deficit to write history. The 27-26 victory asked as the greatest accomplishment thus far by Los Ticos. Costa Rica entered the contest ranked 99th in the World Rankings while Peru were ranked 75th.

Both Costa Rica and Peru are preparing for upcoming Rugby World Cup 2027 qualifier. The teams will join Colombia and Venezuela in the opening phase of South America’s regional qualifiers.

Peru was Costa Rica’s second opponent before the Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifiers. Costa Rica completed a 74-5 win over Nicaragua. That match was played at the Cancha Barrio Moracia in Liberia, Costa Rica.
