Vancouver Highlanders and Germany set for Saturday clash

The Vancouver Highlanders will enjoy their second day in the sunshine when they host Germany at Burnaby Lake Rugby Club on Saturday afternoon. It comes three weeks after they celebrated victory over the Canada Selects at the same venue, with their reserve side defeating Barbados.

Since then the Highlanders have added further quality. A pair of locks arrive in Donald Carson and Kaden Duguid. The former has two senior Canada caps while national u19 select Duguid was part of the Selects side after returning from a three-year spell in France. Miami Sharks center Guiseppe du Toit and Utah Warriors winger Nick Bain have also joined though they will not dress on Saturday.

Talon and Takoda McMullin will be under close watch by Canadian selectors after the twins won their first caps for Canada in the recent tests against Scotland and Romania. Ollie Nott, Reid Watkins, and captain Josh Thiel are also full internationals along with ex-Georgia flanker Saba Shubitidze.

The Black Eagles have traveled with something of a development side, though 15 of their 24 names appeared during this year’s Rugby Europe Championship. Marcel Henn was part of the Germany squad that competed in the 2018 World Cup Repechage qualifier, though he did not suit up against Canada. Of the newcomers Bader-Warner Pretorius is notable, having played for a South Africa Schools side and with professional experience in both the Pro 14 and the RFU Championship.

Kickoff is set for 5pm local time with a live stream available on the Highlanders YouTube page.
