Santiago Videla Breaks Chilean All-Time Point Scoring Record

Santiago Videla is now the all-time leading point scorer for Chile. The 26-year-old Cóndor utility back scored 16 points for Chile against Belgium on Saturday. It took his personal scoring to 242 points for Chile. In doing so, he woke the national record. He took 30 caps to do so. Given his age, Videla could now set a much higher mark.

Videla made his test debut for Chile against Hong Kong as a teenager in 2017. He earned his 29th cap against the same side earlier this month. His 30th cap saw him breaking Javier Valderrama Fuente’s previous record. Valderrama Fuente scored 232 points for Chile from 2008-2015.

Videla moved from Selknam in Super Rugby Americas to the Miami Sharks for Major League Rugby 2024. Videla is very well-known to rugby lovers in North America. He kicked Chile past the USA in July 2022 to qualify for the World Cup.

Videla played wing that day in Denver and also did so at the World Cup itself. This was based on the needs of Chile more than anything else. Videla has played fly half, inside center and fullback for Selknam and has also played across the positions for Los Cóndores.

Videla played inside center against Hong Kong and Belgium in Chile’s two home matches thus far in 2024. Los Cóndores play host to giants Scotland this coming weekend in Santiago.
