Germany confirm squad to face Vancouver Highlanders

Germany have confirmed their traveling squad for a week-long training camp in Canada that includes a fixture against the Vancouver Highlanders on Saturday, July 20. There are 24 names selected largely from the domestic Bundesliga at the disposal of Head Coach Mark Kuhlmann, whose list of assistants includes former national team skipper Michael Poppmeier.

The Black Eagles finished 6th in this year’s Rugby Europe Championship, with 15 of the touring group making appearances in the tournament. France-based prop Julius Nostadt was poised to make his return but was a late withdrawal from the squad. Among the other notable absentees are regular captain Jörn Schröder, Vannes lock Eric Marks, and veteran center Sebastian Rodwell.

The Highlanders are expected to welcome new names to their lineup following the inaugural victories over the Canada Selects and Barbados last month. Kickoff is set for 5pm local time (8pm Eastern) at Burnaby Lake Rugby Club. A live stream will be available on the Highlanders YouTube page.
