History Making Brazil Qualify for First Rugby World Cup

Brazil made history on Saturday. As Yaras became the first ever South American team to qualify for a Women’s Rugby World Cup. Brazil were 34-13 winners over Colombia in the Rugby World Cup Qualifier had in Asunción, Paraguay.

Brazil secures place in World Cup for the first time

The historic victory took place at the Estádio Héroes de Curupayti. Brazil’s 34-13 marked the first ever Brazilian win over Colombia; yet, this far will be quickly lost as the win meant so much more. Brazil’s Women’s team is now confirmed on the biggest stage of them all.

Brazil will debut at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England. The 2015 tournament will consist of sixteen competitors, this marks an expansion from twelve at previous tournaments. It is to be the tenth edition of the Women’s Rugby World Cup.

The 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup will take place in England between August 22 and September 27, 2025. Matches are spread around eight English cities. Hosts England will open the tournament at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland, and that the final will be held at Twickenham Stadium in London.

Brazil are the 13th team confirmed for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup. As Yaras join Canada and the USA to give the Americas an unprecedented three teams. Brazil is the only debutant thus far of the tournament. The ten confirmed teams not from the Americas are England, France, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Japan, South Africa, Australia, Fiji and New Zealand.

The pool draw for the tournament will take place in October 2024. It will take place following the WXV in September and October. The tournament is to act as he repechage for the Women’s Rugby World Cup.

As Yaras overcome Las Tucanes

The 34-13 win started well for Brazil with N8 Íris Coluna scored the opening try from a scrum. Colombia hit-back with a try of their own. Left winger Juliana Soto canceled out the opening score.

As Yaras scored again, this time through left winger Isadora Lopes. Her score came in the 27th minute. Brazil were not done; six minutes later captain Eshyllen Coimbra crossed. Raquel Kochhann, who had missed earlier shots, this time converted.

Inside center Maria Arzuaga struck a penalty bit Brazil had the final say in the opening half. Las Tucanes were left frustrated as Aline Mayumi scored an interception try to give Brazil a 22-8 half-time lead.

The second-half started with a fight-back; Laura Guttíerez scored for Colombia. From there Brazil sealing victory. The fourth Brazilian try saw Yasmim Soares pouncing on an uncontrolled ball to score in the 61st minute. A late score by Mariana Nicolau made it 34-13 with Brazil now being the first South American Women’s entrant in a Rugby World Cup.
