Toulouse were 39-23 winners over La Rochelle on Friday. Played at Bordeaux, the first Top 14 Semi Final was a replay of the 2023 Final. It means Toulouse will face the winner of Stade Français and Bordeaux in the 2024 Final.
Córdoba’s Juan Cruz Mallía and Rufino’s Santiago Chocobares both left their mark on the Semi Final. Mallía scored two tries, both coming from assists from Antoine Dupont, while Chocobares scored a charge-down try. Mallía was named Man of the Match.
The finesse of Toulouse saw the reigning champions to victory. La Rochelle had notable discipline meltdown. Not for the first time in his career, prop Uini Atonio was red carded for shoulder to had contact in a tackle. Reda Wardi was sent off for head-butting. Pumas prop Joel Sclavi played the final 15 minutes.
EYEING TOP 14 TREBLE |
Toulouse vs La Rochelle was a replay of the 2023 Top 14 Final. That day Toulouse were 29-26 winners over La Rochelle with Santiago Chocobares scoring.
The win also means that Mallía and Chocobares can now make it a Top 14 treble. The Pumas backs were also involved in Toulouse’s 18-8 win, also over La Rochelle, to be crowned 2021 Top 14 champions.
CHASING THE EUROPEAN AND TOP 14 DOUBLE |
Toulouse are now in to their second final this season. The south-west French side defeated Irish province Leinster 31-22 to win the European Champions Cup Final. Mallía and Chocobares can now target the European and Top 14 double, that being winning both titles during the same season.
ARGENTINA IN JULY |
The Top 14 Final will be played on Friday, June 28. This is a small window between the July Internationals. Argentina take-on France in Mendoza on July 06, in Buenos Aires on July 13 and face Los Teros in Uruguay on July 20.
Mallía will not play in the July Internationals. He is officially being rested and will return for the Rugby Championship. Chocobares is on the roster. He played less than Mallía thus season with the center recovering from injury.
