Canadian Helps Montpellier past Grenoble to avoid relegation

Montpellier survived. The 2022 Top 14 Champions held on in a nail-bitter to avoid relegation down to the Pro D2. Montpellier were 20-18 winners over Grenoble in the Access Match. The come-from-behind win means Montpellier will play in next season’s Top 14 and Grenoble remain in the Pro D2.

Montpellier were asked to dig deep again Grenoble. Not only was the match won by just 2 point; but, Grenoble are actually lading the match at half-time. Grenoble held an 18-14 lead at the midway point of the contest.

Unfortunately for the team from the Alps, Grenoble were unable to add to their first-half scoring. Montpellier sealed the wi late and did so after Sam Davies had been off-target for Grenoble.

The Access Match had a connection to the Americas. Uncapped Canadian Tyler Duguid started in the second-row for Montpellier. Former USA prop Titi Lamositele was a replacement for Montpellier. Former Pumas Felipe Ezcurra and Bautista Ezcurra did not play for Grenoble.

Meanwhile, Montpellier are recruiting Domingo Miotti from Oyonnax for next season. Oyonnax traded places with Vannes for the 2024-2025 season. Vannes and Montpellier will be Top 14 clubs with Oyonnax back, alongside Grenoble, in the Pro D2.
