Bautista Delguy impressed for Clermont on Saturday. The author of a hat-trick against Montpellier, Delguy is pushing hard for a Pumas recall. The first roster under new Head Coach Felipe Contepomi is forthcoming.
His performance was noted by the French press. Rugby Rama named Delguy as the player of the week, the L’Oscar de la Semaine. His three tries helped Clermont to a dominant 52-15 win over the 2022 Top 14 Champions. Delguy scored his tries in the 16th, 46th and 60th minutes.
The result was not enough for Clermont to secure a place in the Top 14 play-off’s; however, Clermont qualified for the 2024-2025 European Champions Cup. Clermont finished 8th on 61 points. Racing 92 finished 6th on 62 points.
The 27-year-old Bautista Delguy missed Rugby World Cup 2003 after being injured on the eve of the Rugby Championship. He was named to start vs New Zealand but missed out. Michael Cheika’s roster for the World Cup included Emiliano Boffelli, Martín Bogado, Mateo Carreras, Juan Imhoff, and Rodrigo Isgró as wingers.
Boffelli is out of the July 2024 Internationals through injury. Isgró will serve a suspension before the Paris Olympic Games and Imhoff has retired from international duty. Contepomi’s training roster earlier this year featured Delguy as well as Santiago Cordero while Bogado was missing. Bogado’s missed out due to playing Super Rugby in New Zealand.
Delguy has 25 caps for Argentina. He made his test debut against Wales in San Juan in 2018. His brother, Iñaki Delguy played Super Rugby Americas 2024 for Selknam. He is uncapped.
