Colombia To Take On Trinidad & Tobago

Colombia have secured a home test match against Trinidad & Tobago. The clash between the Sudamerica Rugby and Rugby Americas North members will take place in Medellín, Colombia on June 15.

Known as Las Tucanes, the Colombians are in the final stages of preparing for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Qualifiers. Colombia will face Brazil in Paraguay on June 29. The winner of the Sudamerica Play-off will qualify for the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England in 2025.

Either Colombia or Brazil will the make their debut at any Rugby World Cup. The Men’s teams from the two countries have never played in a Rugby World Cup. South America has been represented by Argentina at every Men’s Rugby World Cup while Uruguay have played at five and Chile debuted in France 2003.

The Women’s Rugby World Cup is different. South America has never had a participant qualify for a Women’s Rugby World Cup. Canada and the USA are the only two countries from the Americas who have competed at Women’s Rugby World Cups. he USA won the inaugural tournament in 1991 in Wales.

Colombia will warm-up for the challenge of As Yaras against Trinidad & Tobago. After facing Trinidad & Tobago, Las Tucanas will travel to Paraguay.

Colombia is undefeated against Brazil in prior Women’s capped test matches. Las Tucanes won 30-19 and 24-23 in 2023. The inaugural fixture was an 18-15 away Colombian triumph in 2022.
