Argentina has confirmed a 30-man roster for the upcoming World Rugby U20 Championship. Los Pumita will be the Americas only representative in the annual tournament to determine the World Champion at Junior level.
Coached by former Pumas flanker, Álvaro Galindo, the roster comes together on the back of the recent inaugural Rugby Championship u20 in Australia. Argentina finished third on Australia’s Sunshine Coast. Los Pumitas defeated Junior Wallabies 25-06, lost 43-23 to the Junior All Blacks and 30-28 to the Junior Springboks.
The nail-bitting defeat against South Africa was an early-look into the World Rugby U20 Championship. The teams are in the same pool. They are joined by England and Fiji. Los Pumitas face England first, followed by South Africa and Fiji. The fixture will subsequently be followed by Semi Finals and Finals.
Argentina has participated in every World Rugby U20 Championship. The best result achieved was 3rd place at the 2016 tournament which was played in England. In that tournament, Argentina complete a 49-19 win over South Africa.
The most recent tournament was played in 2023. Like the 2024 event, last year’s tournament was also played in South Africa. Argentina finished 9th after defeating Fiji 43-22.
Galindo’s roster contains eight returning players from 2023. They are Juan Manuel Vivas, Tomás Rapetti, Marcos Camerlinckx, Efraín Elías, Tomás Di Biase, Franco Rossetto, Faustino Sánchez Valarolo, and Benjamín Elizalde.
