Peñarol Recruit Two Front-Rowers from Argentina

Peñarol’s scrum has been a weak point of their Super Rugby Americas 2024 season. The Uruguayan team has taken action with the recruitment of two front-rowers from Argentina. Leonel Oviedo and Horacio de la Mota are now on the Peñarol roster.

Oviedo is a former Pumita. He was selected for two World Junior Championships with the Pumitas before making his Argentina XV debut against the Chile XV. He also played for Los Ceibos in the 2020 SLAR season and Jaguares XV in the Currie Cup. He subsequently played in France for Céret Sportif, RC Hyères Carqueiranne La Crau and Provence.

de la Mota plays tight head prop. He comes from the Urú Curé club – Rugby Club Rio Cuarto in Córdoba province. He started in the 2023 Córdoba Final. His club lost 26-23 to Córdoba Athletic. Dogos scrum-half Agustín Moyano was Man of the Match.
