Europe Notes – Argentine Player Transfers

Player recruitment and re-signings continue. Recent instances in Europe have seen player movement involving three Pumas. The transfer news pertains to an Argentine in each of the major European leagues – the French Top 14, United Rugby Championship (URC), and the English Premiership.

Veteran tight head Francisco Gómez Kodela has signed a new deal with Stade Français. Gómez Kodela arrived at the club this season from rivals Lyon. He did so on a one-year contract for the season which follows Rugby World Cup 2023. His new deal is for one final season.

Scrum-half Gonzalo Bertranou has made an unusual late season transfer from one Welsh port city to another. He has moved from the most Eastern port of Newport along to Cardiff. In rugby region terms this means from the Dragons to Cardiff. The move is for the remainder of the URC season.

Flanker Santiago Grondona was forced out of the Rugby World Cup with a serious knee injury in the final warm-up match. Hard work now sees him having signed a new deal with the Bristol Bears. This comes before he has made his debut. Grondona is now into the final stages of his rehabilitation. His brother, Benjamín Grondona, is now also at the club. The teenager is uncapped.
