USA Women claim Silver in Hong Kong

The USA Women’s Eagles won Silver at the Hong Kong Sevens. The North Americans fell to New Zealand in the final. The 36-7 win underlined what was an impressive campaign from the tournament winners.

Michaela Blyde scored a hat-trick in the final for New Zealand. I gave the champions a third consecutive Gold. New Zealand’s pathway to the final included facing Canada in the Quarter Finals. New Zealand won 26-5.

Canada went on to finish the tournament in 6th position. The Canadians did so with a 19-15 defeat against Fiji. This was a disappointing finish for Canada; they were undefeated in their pool matches against Japan, Spain and the USA.

Brazil also competed in the Women’s competition at Hong Kong. As Yaras 7’s were winless in the group stage but recovered to defeat Spain 12-5. The Brazilians ultimately finished in 9th position after falling 14-5 to Great Britain.

The USA’s tournament showed a strong recovery after falling to Canada in the pool. The USA went on to beat Japan and Spain to book a Quarter Final. The Women’s Eagles were 33-7 winners over Fiji while Canada lost their Quarter Final 26-5 against New Zealand. The Eagles booked their place in the final with a 19-5 win over France.
