Ignacio Ruiz and Perpignan blast past Castres

An impressive display from Ignacio Ruiz helped Perpignan to a commanding win. The Catalans’ blasted past Castres on Saturday. The 43-12 win is the third in-a-row. It lifts the side to 9th position and to currently be comfortably safe from relegation.

The round 20 match was a home fixture for Perpignan. Those in attendance at the Stade Aimé Giral were treated to seven tries by the home team. Ruiz scored two of them and did so seven minutes apart.

Ruiz’s solid season comes as welcome news for Felipe Contepomi and Argentina. The Perpignan hooker was Argentina’s third choice hooker at Rugby World Cup 2023 behind Julián Montoya and Agustín Creevy. The former will need rotation in July after a very busy season with the Leicester Tigers. The latter is now aged 39 and and was not selected for the recent Pumas training camp.
