Santi Carreras Kicks Gloucester to first Premiership win at Leicester in 16 years

After sixteen years of losing away to the Leicester Tigers, Gloucester conquered Welford Road on Friday. Puma Santiago Carreras slotted the winning kick after Italian scrum-half Stephen Varney scored.

The goal was one of five from Carreras in the match. Playing in his regular test match position of fly half, Carreras landed two penalties and three conversions for the Cherry and white’s. New Argentine Head Coach Felipe Contepomi is on record as intending to continue with Carreras at fly half.

Carreras was joined by fellow Puma Mayco Vivas in the Gloucester starting line-up. Vivas played at loose head prop. He parked down on the opposing pack of Pumas captain Julián Montoya. The Argentine hooker is also the Leicester Tigers captain.

The Leicester Tigers were heavy favorites to win at home against, the second from bottom, Gloucester. The Midlands club had second place in the English Premiership within their reach. They required a bonus point victory. Instead, they fell to seventh in the standings.
