Europe Notes – Americas Player Transfers

Player recruitment and re-signings continue. Recent instances in Europe have seen player movement involving players from both North America and South America.


Venezuelan Victor Gallego has signed a new contract with SC Mazamet in France’s Fédérale 1. While it is of note that there is a Venezuelan playing in the league also of note is his age; Gallego is still playing professional rugby at the age of 41. He is 1.92m (6 ft 4) tall and weighs 116 kg (255 lbs). His regular position is second-row.


Charente and Germán Kessler have parted ways. The club signed Kessler as a medical joker from Pro D2 rivals Provence. The end of his contract means he is available now. Will he move on to another club in Europe or could he return to Uruguay and defend Peñarol in Super Rugby Americas?


Argentine Center Lucio Cinti and flanker Juan Martín González have re-signed with Saracens on long-term deals. Both players were starters for Los Pumas at Rugby World Cup 2023. In securing their future in England’s elite competition both men will be in top shape for Los Pumas when alled-up for international duty.

Argentine flanker Guido Volpi has signed a new contract with Zebre Parma. The 28-year-old has re-signed with the Italian club until 2026. Volpi joined Zebre Parma in 2022 from United Rugby Championship (URC) rivals the Ospreys. He is uncapped and eligible to play for Italy via ancestry.

32-year-old Mariano Filomeno has transferred from Mont de Marsan to RCB Arcachon. It is a move from the Pro D2 to the Nationale 2 and a return to his previous club. The giant prop has also played for Tarbes in France, Gexto in Spain and Os Cobras in Super Rugby Americas.


Former USA star prop Titi Lamositele has signed for the Harlequins. He will make the move back to England next season. The 29-year-old joined Montpellier from Saracens in 2020. He previously played for Saracens from 2015-2020. The Washington state born and raised front-rower played in two Rugby World Cups but turned-down playing for the USA in Rugby World Cup 2023 qualifiers. He transferred to Samoa under the eligibility changes which are said to advantage Tier 2.
