July 2024 will feature a blockbuster month of international rugby in South America. In what is indisputably the biggest ever international window for the region, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay will play against visiting teams from other continents.
Rugby World Cup 2023 Semi Finalists, Los Pumas will play host to France in two test matches. Argentina will have home advantage against Les Bleus on July 06 and 13, 2024. The series will be followed by Argentina playing against Uruguay in Montevideo on July 20.
Argentina’s home matches against Argentina are expected to be shared between Buenos Aires and the mainland. That is to say one of the two matches is likely to be played in the capital. Los Pumas will then travel across the Rio de la Plata to face Uruguay.

Uruguayan Rugby expert Ignacio Chans has revealed full details of matches for Uruguay, Chile, Brazil and Paraguay. Chans notes that Los Teros will play three home matches. All will be at the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo and all will be against Tier 1 countries.
France, Argentina and Scotland will all play a match at the Estadio Charrúa in July. What is awaiting confirmation is the status of the matches; that is to say, will they all be capped test matches?
France’s match in Uruguay will be on Wednesday, July 10. It will be as a non-capped side with France playing as France Development. The French side will be made up of replacement players on the roster to tour Argentina.
An official confirmation is forthcoming regarding the status of Uruguay’s matches against Argentina and Scotland. It is hoped that both are fully capped internationals.
Los Teros struggled for Tier 1 fixtures during the previous Rugby World Cup cycle. Uruguay’s only test match against a Tier 1 opponent was away against Italy in November 2021.

Chile were debutants at Rugby World Cup 2023. Los Cóndores were the fist newcomers to the tournament since Russia debuted at Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand. Chilean Head Coach Pablo Lemoine demonstrated frustrations at the lack of opportunities against Tier 1 opponents.
Chile had a home match against Scotland A in 2022. Despite not being capped, Scotland’s team had big names including Matt Fagerson, George Horne, Sione Tuipulotu, Pierre Schoeman, Ali Price, and Blair Kinghorn.
Whether the July 2024 fixture is Scotland or Scotland A is not yet known. However, Scotland will play in North America first and the confirmed away fixture against Canada will be a test match. Chile’s match against Scotland will be on thee weekend of July 20/21.
Los Cóndores will also play against Belgium and Hong Kong in Chile. Dates for these matches are unclear at this stage. Belgium and Hong Kong are teams with realistic chances of debuting at Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia. World Rugby is currently finalizing the qualification process.

Brazil will join in with Chile in facing two intercontinental opponents. Belgium and Hong Kong will play against Os Tupis in July. Dates and venues for these matches are unknown at this stage. Brazil is South America’s highest ranked Men’s test team who has not played at a Rugby World Cup.
Expansion to 24 teams means that Brazil’s dream of competing at a Rugby World Cup is more reachable than ever before. Os Cobras’ in Super Rugby Americas is the same formula that worked for Chile to qualify ahead of Canada and the USA for Rugby World Cup 2023. Brazil will also play against Paraguay in July.

Brazil vs Paraguay is an annual rivalry. Having historically been behind Paraguay, Brazil overtook the Paraguayans during the Rugby World Cup 2015-2019 cycle. Os Tupis opened a gap over their neighbors but this has decreased in the past two years. Yacare is a competitive team in Super Rugby Americas and offers a pathway for Paraguay moving forward.
Paraguay’s July fixtures will include the aforementioned match against Brazil. Recent results indicate that it will be a competitive match. Meanwhile, there are ongoing discussions for another match; Paraguay are in talks to face Belgium. This would mean a history-making three match South American tour for Belgium against Brazil, Chile and Paraguay.
