The Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR) has unveiled a new sponsor for 2024. Le Coq Sportif replaces Nike as the new official supplier of Argentina’s representative teams: Los Pumas, Los Pumas 7’s, Las Yaguaretés and Los Pumitas. The full line of uniforms will be available for purchase beginning in May.
Le Coq Sportif has a rich history dating back to 1882. It has previously been the kit provider for France on numerous occasions, the first of which was in 1930. The brand was also the sponsor from 1977-1986 and has been the supplier from 2018 until the present day.
France will tour South America in July. Les Bleus are to face Los Pumas for two test matches in Argentina. A third match is currently being organized. It is to be against Uruguay in Montevideo. Negotiations are seeing France looking to field a next-of-XV, or a non-capped side known as France Development.
Argentina’s contract with Le Coq Sportif is for 2024-2027. This means Los Pumas will wear the French brand throughout the Rugby World Cup 2023-2007 cycle. The contract is until the end of Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia.
It is not the first time that Le Coq Sportif has sponsored Argentina Rugby. Le Coq Sportif sponsored Argentina in the 1981 two-match series against England. The brand will feature at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Los Pumas 7’s are serious medal contenders. Before then, Los Pumas 7’s will wear the new jerseys at the Hong Kong Sevens in April. Las Yaguaretés will do so at the Sevens Challenger Series in May in Poland.
