Matías Moroni Slams World Rugby’s Continued Failure to Provide Global Season

Matías Moroni has spoken out against World Rugby. The sport’s governing body continues to fail to provide rugby with a global season. Moroni questioned Rugby’s International Calendar on his Instagram account.

Moroni, a veteran of three Rugby World Cups and 80 test caps for Argentina, wrote about the mental and physical side from the perspective of an elite professional rugby player. There is no off-season for players like Moroni. It is club to Pumas and back again.

“The last match was played before the awaited break before the Six Nations. These have been difficult months in every way. Tiredness, knocks, injuries and defeats which hurt. I am convinced that this was all enhanced by the mental exhaustion that came from the the World Cup.”

“It was very difficult for me to come back straight from the World Cup and I don’t understand how there are players who are about to take-on a competition like the Six Nations. In the same way, I am not surprised by the number of injuries that have been occurring over the past few weeks or players making the decision not to continue playing for their respective countries.”

“My question is: is it so difficult to agree and put together a global calendar? Could the international windows not be played in reverse? Allowing for mentally and physically healthy players… Better weather, better rugby, more entertainment, a larger audience, larger earnings! A WIN WIN.”
