Joaquín de la Vega Mendía to join to Colomiers from Pampas

French club Colomiers are recruiting Argentine fly half Joaquín de la Vega Mendía. Rugby Rama reports that the 24-year-old will join the Pro D2 side for the 2024-2025 season. de la Vega Mendía is the first new signing for the club for the new season.

de la Vega Mendía captained Los Pampas in Super Rugby Americas 2023. The team were Semi Finalists last season. A captain has not yet been named for the 2024 season. de la Vega Mendía is one of 30 players on the roster for the new season.

Colomiers will be de la Vega Mendía’s first experience in Europe and his second experience abroad. He previously played Major League Rugby (MLR) for Rugby ATL, the Atlanta franchise which is now playing in Los Angeles.

Despite being uncapped, de la Vega Mendía has been on the radar for international duty. He has played for and has captained the Argentina XV. He led the Argentina XV to World Cup warm-up wins over Namibia, and Chile in July and August 2023. He also captained the Argentina XV in what was a 20 point defeat against Uruguay in August.

de la Vega Mendía’s regular position is fly half. He can also play in the mid-field or at fullback. While his move to France will follow the Super Rugby Americas 2024 season, it does come after teenage back-rower Benjamín Grondona signed for the Bristol Bears.
