Oyonnax sign Martín Bogado on two-year-deal from Highlanders

French Top 14 side Oyonnax have announced the recruitment of Martín Bogado. The 25-year-old will arrive at the club next season on a two-year-deal. He will join following the completion of Super Rugby Pacific; he will play a second season for the Highlanders.

The move marks a return of sorts; Bogado joined the Highlanders from Bayonne. He joined the Basque side in 2022 as a medical joker before signing for the Highlanders. His prior professional experiences were for Los Jaguares XV and Paraguayan side the Olímpia Lions in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) now Super Rugby Americas.

Bogado is a native of Posadas in Missiones province. He is a product of Club Centro de Cazadores in his home town. He featured for Jockey Club Córdoba in 2018 as his continued his progression. His first taste of professional rugby was in SLAR 2021.

Michael Cheika named Bogado on Argentina’s roster for 2023. He played in two warm-up matches before the World Cup and subsequently made the final roster itself. At the World Cup he was a try scorer in the win over Chile in Nantes.

The new era of Los Pumas sees World Rugby Hall of Famer Felipe Contepomi replacing Michael Cheika. Bogado and Juan Cruz Mallía were the two Pumas fullback options at the World Cup. Both will be playing in the Top 14; Mallía has played for Toulouse for the past four seasons.

Bogado will also be in company of fellow Argentines at Oyonnax. The club is presently home to fly half Domingo Miotti and center Lucas Mensa. The latter was on the roster for Rugby World Cup 2019. Meanwhile, Miotti has been in outstanding form for Oyonnax this season. He is one to watch out for a a possible returning Puma for international activity in 2024.
