Ma’a Nonu to reunite with Matt Giteau in San Diego

Ma’a Nonu has committed to one more crusade in San Diego. The former All Blacks midfielder will reunite with fellow test centurion Matt Giteau as the 2023 Major League Rugby Finalists look to take it the final step in 2024. Both players will be 41 years old at the start of the new campaign.

The duo last combined in January of 2017 while in the second of two seasons together at French Top 14 giants Toulon. Nonu then signed with the Legion in 2020 but spent 2021 back in France while Giteau helped lead the LA Giltinis to MLR glory. Injury prevented Giteau from taking the field opposite Nonu during the 2022 season.

Meanwhile a fifth San Diego player has signed for a Super Rugby side. Tom Franklin will join the Western Force, following lock partner Ben Grant, hooker duo Sama Malolo and Shilo Klein, and scrumhalf Richard Judd to the top tier competition. Franklin had initially signed with New York for the 2024 season and his rights were acquired by NOLA in the Dispersal Draft.
