Triumphant Gastón Revol becomes First Man to play in 100 Tournaments

Argentina’s tournament victory at the Cape Town 7’s was a double triumph for Gastón Revol. In addition to being a part of the winning team, the veteran Los Pumas 7’s player became the first man to play in 100 World Sevens Series tournaments.

Revol made history by appearing for Argentina in the 31-12 win over Spain on Saturday. The veteran from La Tablada club in Córdoba is the all time leading player for tournament appearances on the World Sevens Series circuit. His 100 tournaments are followed by New Zealander Tim Mikkelson with 95 and England’s James Rodwell (93) and Dan Norton (92).

The Cape Town Sevens tournament saw not only Revol but Luciano González Rizzoni also reaching an important milestone. González Rizzoni played in his 50th tournament. He joins fellow Los Pumas 7’s: Germán Schulz (64), Santiago Gómez Cora (63), Franco Sábato (61), Santiago Álvarez Fourcade (58).

Revol debuted for Los Pumas 7’s at the 2009 London Sevens. He secured a permanent spot on the roster following his performances at the tournament in Kenya. The 37-year-old now has one firm objective: the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
