Dublin Date Set for Argentina to face 2025 British & Irish Lions

Los Pumas will be a part of the 2025 British & Lions Tour. Argentina will take-on the combined team of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in a match in Dublin, Ireland on Friday, June 20. The fixture will fall outside of the player release window which will mean restrictions on player availability, particularly for players involved in the 2025 Top 14 play-off’s.

The match is to be historic for both the British & Irish Lions and for Ireland. It marks the first ever British & Irish match to take place in Ireland. It follows the 2021 match between the British & Irish Lions and Japan in Edinburgh, Scotland and the 2025 match between the British & Irish Lions and Argentina in Cardiff, Wales.

Former Pumas captain Lisandro Arbizu featured for Los Pumas in the 2005 match. It was his final appearance for his country. The teams competed to a 25-25 draw with Felipe Contepomi running the show for the visitors from inside center.

The 2025 fixture in Dublin will take place at the regular home ground of the Irish test team, Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. The match will be contested for the Lions 1888 Cup. It is to be the one home match before the team tours Australia.

The British & Irish Lions tour Australia, New Zealand and South Africa on a rotational basis. This was not always so as the British & Irish Lions toured Argentina in 1910, 1927 and 1936 and faced Canada in Toronto in 1966. Since then the British & Irish Lions have never toured any other than Australia, New Zealand or South Africa. The team played the Springboks regularly during apartheid.

The 2025 British & Irish Lions will play a total of ten matches. The fixture in Dublin will be the only match outside of Australia. There will be three test matches between Australia and the British & Irish Lions. All three will be on the East Coast.

The remaining matches will be against Super Rugby sides the Western Force, Queensland Reds, NSW Waratahs, ACT Brumbies, Melbourne Rebels and a combined Australia and New Zealand Invitational team.
