Selknam Unveil New Coach for Super Rugby Americas 2024

Selknam have unveiled a new Head Coach for Super Rugby Americas 2024. The Chilean franchise will be coached by Jacob Mangin. The New Zealander arrives with lengthily experience with the CBRu (Brazil Rugby) from 2013-2020 where he was in charge of the Sevens team in 2016.

Mangin’s appointment follows that of changes to Buenos Aires’ side Los Pampas and Uruguayan side Peñarol. Los Pampas are now coached by Juan Manuel Leguizamón. The 2005-2019 Pumas back-rower will be joined by RWC 2011 scrum-half Nicolás Vergallo as an assistant.

Leonardo Senatore is now the Peñarol Head Coach. Senatore played at Rugby World Cups 2011 and 2015 with Leguizamón. Both also played Super Rugby for Los Jaguares and had professional careers in Europe.

Unlike that of the former Pumas, Mangin’s appointment is career motivated based on his coaching background. He has coached the Brazil XV and Brazil u20. He was also an assistant coach for the Crusaders Juniors and the Canterbury u19 in 2021-2022.

Meanwhile, Os Cobras will also have a New Zealander in charge. The wooden spooners from Super rugby Americas 2023 will again be coached by Josh Reeves. He is a former Brazilian fly half and also spent time playing in Major League rugby (MLR) for the Utah Warriors.
