All three Americas teams into Dubai Women’s Quarters

All three Americas entries in the Women’s draw at the Dubai Sevens have reached the Quarter Finals. Canada earned two victories to finish second in Pool C, and one win was enough for both of Brazil and the USA to squeeze into the top 8.

The Eagles got off to a flying start with a shutout win over Spain that included a brace from Jaz Gray. Their second match did not go so swimmingly. A yellow card to Kris Thomas opened the door for Canada to tie the game with a last-gasp try from Charity Williams, and then Carissa Norsten notched the game winner for the Canucks in extra time. France blitzed the USA in their final pool match to set up a Quarter Final match against Australia.

Canada will square off against Ireland after cruising to a dominant win over Spain that saw six different players scoring tries. As with the Eagles, the Maple Leafs had little luck in a shutout defeat to France to start their tournament.

Brazil were crushed by Australia but then gave Ireland a scare, running out to a 14-nil lead early in the first half only to let the game slip away in the second half. As Yaras would get their victory against Japan in their final pool match but must now face New Zealand to start Day Two.
