Europe Notes – Americas Player Transfers

Player recruitment continues. Recent transfers have seen players from North America and South America signing deals in Europe. Player movement will continue over the coming weeks and months with short and long-term signings being tabled.

Former Canadian captain Tyler Ardron continues to be a man missing in action for Canada. The North Americans latest showing was lackluster and that of a badly beaten team. Spain’s win was against Canada without Ardron and without others who simply do not play under the struggling Kingsley Jones. Ardron has now secured his longterm future. He will remain at Castres in France’s elite.

Having impressed at the Rugby World Cup, Mateo Carreras became a player known by all. El tucumano will make the move from the English Premiership to the French Top 14 next season. He has signed for Bayonne from 2024-2026 on a big money deal. The Newcastle Falcons did not want to see him departing while Racing 92 were also interested in the Argentine winger.

A second Rugby World Cup 2023 Puma is closing in on a move. Joaquín Oviedo is under contract with Perpignan until the end of the current season. He is in negotiations with rivals with Montpellier being the front-runner to sign the back-rower.

Clermont is now home to four Pumas. Marcos Kremer debuted this past weekend while Benjamín Urdapilleta did so earlier on in the season. Clermont are currently looking to sign Urdapilleta for a further season. Second-rower Tomás Lavanini is looking like leaving the club at the end of the season. His destination is unknown at this stage.

Meanwhile, in a transfer of another kind ARN understands Italy approached Gerónimo Prisciantelli months ago with the offer of him making the player transfer from Argentina to Italy. Prisciantelli plays his rugby for Zebre in Italy and is a regular starter at both fullback and fly half.  He is uncapped but is attached to Argentina. His last match for the Argentina XV was in July 2022, meaning Italy could, in theory, cap him as of July 2025.
