USA Women Hold on for Historic Gold at Pan American Games

The USA Women’s Eagles won Gold at the Pan American Games. With a 19-12 victory over Canada in the Final, the USA won Bronze while Canada claimed Silver. It marked a medal-double for the Canadians after the Men won Bronze.

The final saw far tighter than the battle for Bronze. Brazil got revenge for the 2019 Pan American Games by hammering Colombia 47-0 in the 2023 Bronze Final. Brazil’s place on the podium was a repeat from Toronto 2015.

What was different about Santiago 2023 compared to Lima 2019 and Toronto 2015 was how the USA and Canada finished. Canada won Gold by beating the USA in both Lima and Toronto. This time, however, Canada settled for Bronze after the Women’s Eagles won the final.

Earlier on in the day the USA overpowered Brazil 36-0 to book their place in the final. Canada were also comfortable winners in their Semi Final. The Canadians overcame Colombia 45-14.

Meanwhile, Paraguay overcame Mexico 26-12 to finish in 5th position. Another South vs North America battle determined who finished 7th and who finished 8th. Chile downed Jamaica 34-5 in that encounter.
