There will be North America vs South America matches for Medals at the 2023 Pan American Games. The opening day on Friday set-up Men’s Semi Finals to be contested between Chile and the USA on the one hand and Argentina and Canada on the other. The Women’s Semi Finals will be USA vs Brazil and Canada vs Colombia.
Chile impressed in the Men’s. Los Cóndores Sevens completed a upset win over Uruguay. The 24-7 win was followed by Chile falling 28-12 to Argentina and rebounding to defeat Jamaica 27-12. Argentina went unbeaten. In addition to beating Chile, Los Pumas 7’s were 40-7 and 35-5 winners over Jamaica and Uruguay.
The USA started with a 48-7 win over Mexico. It was followed by a 17-5 victory over Brazil and a 19-5 win over Canada. Having won the pool, the Eagles face Chile in the final four while Canada face the favorites to win Gold, Argentina. Canada won their earlier matches, doing so 22-12 against Brazil and 42-5 against Mexico.
Canada and the USA are both on the hunt for Medals in the Men’s and the Women’s competitions. The USA Women opened Day One with a 44-0 win over Jamaica. They followed it up by beating Colombia 33-0 and Paraguay 39-0.
The Canadian Women were also impressive. They dominated their first two opponents, winning 36-0 against Chile and 69-0 against Mexico. They were given a hard contest in their remaining Day One match. Canada overcame Brazil 29-21.
Brazil and Colombia join Canada and the USA in the Women’s Semi Finals. Brazil downed Mexico 47-0 and defeated hosts 41-0. Las Tucanes secured their place in the Semi Finals by overcoming Paraguay 32-7 and Jamaica 26-12.
