Rodrigo Isgró Named World’s Best Rugby 7’s Player

Rodrigo Isgró has been named the world’s best Rugby 7’s player for the year 2023. The Argentine won the award at the World Rugby Awards in Paris, France on Sunday. Isgró is the second Argentine to win the award following Marcos Moneta in 2021.

Isgró started in 66 of Los Pumas 7’s 73 matches and scored 33 tries for the year on the World Sevens Circuit. The Mendoza flier was named MVP in the three tournaments in which Argentina won Gold. He was particularly impressive against New Zealand in the final of the Hamilton 7’s and against France in the final of the Vancouver 7’s.

His season saw him named on the Dream Team by World Rugby. Isgró joined Marcos Moneta and Luciano González Rizzoni to give Argentina a staggering three players in the 2023 Rugby 7’s Dream Team.

The performances of Los Pumas 7’s were noted by Argentina’s coaches. Isgró and González Rizzoni were called-up to the Rugby World Cup training camp. Michael Cheika was so impressed with Isgró that he handed him a test debut against Australia in the 2023 Rugby Championship. He played wing.

Isgró earned his second cap against Spain. Meanwhile, González Rizzoni featured as inside center for the Argentina XV in World Cup warm-up matches. Isgró earned his third test cap in the World Cup. He started in the win against Chile and was a try scorer.
