Germán Kessler moves north in Pro D2 to Charente

French club Soyeaux-Angloulême Charente have signed Germán Kessler. The Pro D2 have landed the Uruguayan World Cup starting hooker on a new deal. Kessler makes the move north to the Charente  department from Provence. The club has confirmed the move.

It is more than a move from Provence to Charente; it is a return. Kessler previously played for the club in the 2020-2021 season. He joined Soyeaux-Angloulême Charente following his time in Major League Rugby (MLR) with the Utah Warriors.

Soyeaux-Angloulême have signed Kessler as a medical joker for the injured Motu Matu’u. The club also has Patxi Bidart and Rayne Barka as hookers. Kessler brings with him a combined 70 Pro D2 appearances for Soyeaux-Angloulême Charente and Provence.

Kessler had a strong Rugby World Cup for Uruguay. He missed his country’s opening fixture of the campaign against France though injury. He then started against Italy in Nice. Kessler started against Namibia in Lyon and was a try-scorer in the win and against New Zealand also in Lyon.

The vastly experienced Kessler has 65 test caps for Uruguay. He made his test debut against Paraguay at home in Montevideo in 2015. The 1.83m tall hooker weighs 113kg.
