With 20 points for Argentina and Chile on Saturday, Nicolás Sanchez became Argentina’s all-time leading point scorer at Rugby World Cups.
The 34-year-old scored 100 points in what was his 100th test cap. Sánchez started at fly half for Argentina and came away with a try, and kicked 7/7 at goal. His 20 points takes his Rugby World Cup total up to 140 points scored. They have come in four tournaments: Rugby World Cups 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023.
Sánchez’ points in Rugby World Cups have come in all possible scoring manners. He has three tries, twenty-two conversions, twenty-three penalties and two drop-goals. This is now five more points than the prior record of 135 held by Gonzalo Quesada who played at Rugby World Cups 1999 and 2003.
The 140 points scored by Sánchez are not his only record. In addition to also being the first Pumas back to reach 100 test caps, Sánchez is also the highest point-scorer in Los Pumas history with 886 points.
