Milton Haig to lead Women’s Eagles for WXV tests

Milton Haig has been appointed Interim Head Coach of the Women’s Eagles for their WXV fall test series. The former Georgia senior men’s coach takes over the temporary leadership of the side from Rich Ashfield, who will assist in the transition at their upcoming training camp in Ireland before departing the side to take up his Director of Rugby position at Stanford University.

Haig, 59, is originally from New Zealand and was previously Head Coach of the Counties Manukau provincial side before leading the Lelos for eight years including the 2015 and 2019 World Cups. He has spent the past four years as Head Coach of Suntory Sungoliath in Japan Rugby League One.

Also joining the staff as assistants are former Black Ferns coach John Haggart and ex-New Zealand international Melodie Bosman. Outgoing USA Rugby CEO Ross Young says the organization is close to finalizing a permanent replacement for Rob Cain, who departed the team earlier this year.
