Americas Rankings – Pre Rugby World Cup 2023

The Americas Rankings have been compiled ahead of Rugby World Cup 2023. Argentina, Chile, Uruguay will compete at the tournament. No team from North America qualified for the tournament. The USA is ranked higher than three who will and Canada is narrowly behind one.

Argentina is the top team from the Americas and will be a contender to go far at the World Cup. Los Pumas defeated Spain in their final warm-up match. It had no effect on the rankings due to the two teams’ respective placings. Argentina will be ranked 6th in the World at the start of the World Cup.

Uruguay are to play in a third-consecutive Rugby World Cup while Chile will make their first appearance. The teams played each-other as well as the Argentina XV and Namibia in warm-up matches. They go in to the World Cup ranked 17th and 22nd in the World.

The USA is ranked 3rd in the Americas and 18th in the World. The Eagles participated in World Cup warm-ups, including getting an away win over Romania in Bucharest. The Eagles are 18th in the World today. Canada fell to two big losses against Tonga and are presently ranked 23rd in the World.

Brazil’s tournament victory in Asunción sees improvement in the rankings. The South American Four Nations title defense sees Brazil ranked 6th in the Americas and 28th in the World.  Paraguay and Colombia are 7th and 8th in the Americas.

Mexico is 9th in the Americas, 3rd in North America and 49th in the World. The next five ranked teams from the Americas are all part of Rugby Americas North not Sudamérica Rugby. Trinidad & Tobago, Cayman Islands, Guyana and Jamaica are all ahead of Peru.
