Leading Pumas Prop Ruled out of Rugby World Cup 2023

Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro is out of the World Cup. The most capped Pumas prop in history was ruled out of Rugby World Cup 2023 on Tuesday. He suffered a rupture of the Achilles tendon in his left leg.

Michael Cheika has added two players to his roster. Loose head prop Mayco Vivas and tight head prop Lucio Sordoni are now on their way to join the team in Portugal. They follow Tomás Albornoz who was also added to the roster.

Tetaz Chaparro has 78 test caps for Argentina. His loss follows another; Ignacio Calles was ruled out of all of Argentina’s test matches in 2023. Calles has 2 caps while Vivas has 18 and Thomas Gallo has 17.

With Tetaz Chaparro out of the World Cup the vacant spot is expected to go to Vivas. Joel Sclavi has trained in the position but is a specialist tight head. Albornoz joined the roster as a precautionary measure.

Argentina’s final match before the World Cup will be against Spain in Madrid on Saturday, August 26. Los Pumas begin their World Cup in Marseille, France against England on September 09.
