List of Pumas in Four Rugby World Cups Grows by Two

Two members of Argentina’s World Cup roster are set to appear in a fourth Rugby World Cup. Veteran hooker Agustín Creevy and fly half Nicolás Sánchez both also appeared at Rugby World Cups 2011, 2015 and 2019.

Creevy and Sánchez are to join six others on the list of Pumas to appear in four Rugby World Cups. The first to do so was second-rower Pedro Sporleder. He played in Rugby World Cups 1991, 1995, 1999 and 2003. Agustín Pichot was involved in three of them as well as in 2007.

Felipe Contepomi and Mario Ledesma played at RWCs 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011. The former retired as the most-capped Puma in history. Juan Manuel Leguizamón hung up his Pumas boots after facing the USA at RWC 2019. He did so by matching the mark of 87 caps.

The mark of 87 has since been overtaken by four players. They are Creevy, Sánchez, Pablo Matera and Tomás Cubelli. All four are on the RWC 2023 roster. Creevy and Sánchez played their first World Cups in 2011.

Sánchez debuted against Uruguay on May 21, 2010. Two days later he earned his second cap against Chile. Argentina face Chile at RWC 2023. Argentina face Spain in a RWC warm-up match before facing England in the first RWC match. Sánchez could thus earn his 100th cap in the next match which will be against Samoa in Saint-Étienne. His 101st may then be against Chile in Nantes.
