The Miami Sharks have confirmed the signings of four players selected in the recent Expansion Draft. Head to Major League Rugby’s newest team are Canadian international Shane O’Leary, Dallas Jackals duo Eric Naposki and Alex Tucci, and uncapped Free Jacks No8 Tomás Casares.
O’Leary departs the Arrows after just one year in Toronto. The 29-year-old flyhalf missed five weeks of the season with concussion and was then played out of position at fullback for the final six games of the campaign. He will now look for a fresh start in South Florida.
In Naposki the Sharks have acquired one of the most talented attacking wingers in American rugby. Injury ended the 24-year-old’s season after just five weeks but he is a clear contender for Eagles honors when fully fit. He has spent the past two seasons with Dallas.
Tucci, 31, returns to his home state after also spending the past two years in Texas. He had previously spent four years with the Utah Warriors. Capable of playing both sides of the scrum, he was used exclusively at loosehead this past season.
Casares is yet to make his pro debut. Selected in the 2022 Collegiate Draft, the 24-year-old is Argentine born and raised but qualifies for the USA through his father.
