Saracens call sees Juan Martín González staying in English Premiership

Juan Martín González has signed for Saracens. The move comes following the collapse of London Irish. The northern London side will be González’ second English Premiership club and third professional team overall.

The native of Mendoza joined London Irish from Argentina. He played for Los Jaguares in Super Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) 2021. He stand-out season saw him debuting for Argentina and moving to London Irish. Now aged 22, González has become a Saracen.

González played for London Irish from 2021-2023. The English Premiership club went bust with left players without a club. Fellow London Irish Puma Agustín Creevy has singed for the Sale Sharks while center Lucio Cinti has also joined Saracens. Past Pumas to have played for Saracens include Marcelo Bosch and Juan Figallo.

The young Argentine back-rower has established himself as one of rugby’s leading flankers. In quick-time he has tied the Argentine record for most Rugby Championship tries by a forward. González scored the match-winner for Los Pumas against the Wallabies in Sydney. It matched Juan Manuel Leguizamón’s record of five.

Leguizamón, who also formally played for London Irish, scored 5 Rugby Championship tries from 28 appearances. González reached 5 Rugby Championship tries in his 13th appearance. González also scored on debut for Argentina against Romania in Bucharest in 2021. He scored against Italy in Treviso later that year. His five subsequent tries have all come in the Rugby Championship.

González scored at home in Mendoza against Australia in 2021. He scored again against the same opposition in San Juan one week later. González scored next in Argentina’s historic first-ever win over the All Blacks in New Zealand. He also scored against South Africa in the 2022 loss in Durban.
