USA Fall to heavy defeat against Scotland in u20 Trophy

The USA have fallen to back-to-back losses at the World rugby u20 Trophy. Following their narrow loss to Uruguay first up, the Eagles fell to a heavy defeat against Scotland in their second match in Kenya.

Scotland were 40-13 winners over the USA. The outcome is that Tuesday’s matches of Scotland vs Uruguay and Samoa vs Spain will in effect be Semi Finals. The two winners of the matches will meet in the u20 Trophy Final.

Scotland’s performance in Nairobi was that of a superior team. Scotland scored six tries in their win over the USA. The northern British side was also impressive in their opening match against Zimbabwe.

The USA looked to play enterprising rugby against Scotland. They were rewarded as having the better of play early-on in the contest. They succeeded in breaking the line to put pressure on Scotland. However, the North Americans were not able to capitalize sufficiently.

Scotland soaked up the pressure before responding with force. A rolling-maul was followed by a try to winger Finn Douglas. Corbin Smith responded for the Eagles while Hugh O’Kennedy slotted the conversion and also kicked two penalties.

Scotland responded to be ahead at half-time. Center Findlay Thomson scored the second try for Scotland. The second-half then saw Scotland build on their lead and win convincingly. Scrum-half Ben Afshar scored twice while fly half Andrew McLean and hooker Corey Tait also scored tries.
