Emiliano Boffelli overtakes Federico Todeschini in all-time Pumas points

Emiliano Boffelli has moved up to 6th place in the all-time point-scorers list for Los Pumas. He scored 14 points against Australia in Sydney. This saw him overtaking Federico ‘Ninja’ Todeschini. Both Todeschini and Boffelli are from Rosario.

The 28-year-old Boffelli now has 265 points for Argentina. They have come in 52 test matches. He has always been a capable goal-kicker, though it is only in the recent stages of his test career that he has been Argentina’s regular goal-kicker.

Boffelli’s 14 points against Australia came in the form of two penalties and four conversions. His second half penalty turned-out to be the difference between the teams in terms of points registered. In his career, Boffelli has score 12 tries, 45 penalties and 35 conversions for Argentina. The first of Boffelli’s tries came on debut. He scored against England in San Juan.

El Ninja scored 256 points for Los Pumas. Whenever he pulled-on the Pumas shirt he was always the goal-kicker. Todeschini played in 21 test matches from 1998-2008. He famously stared in Argentina’s first win over England in England in 2006 and in the draw against the British & Irish Lions in Cardiff one year earlier.

Argentina’s all-time leading point-scorer is Nicolás Sánchez. The 34-year-old is in the twilight of his career. The Tucumano is targeting his fourth Rugby World Cup. Sánchez has 846 points. Current assistant coach Felipe Contepomi is second with 651 points. He was a Puma from 1998-2013 and played alongside Todeschini between RWCs 2003 and 2007.

The third highest scorer for Argentina is Hugo Porta with 590 points. He is considered as the man who put Argentine rugby on the map. Porta was a Puma from 1971-1990. Contepomi and Porta are in the World Rugby Hall of Fame.

RWC 1999 and 2003 Puma Gonzalo Quesada is the 4th highest point-scorer for Los Pumas. He is to become Italy’s Head Coach after Rugby World Cup 2023. Italy’s highest point-scorer was also a Puma, Diego Domínguez was born and raised in Argentina. He scored 1010 test points.

Santiago Mesón is the other Puma ahead of Boffelli. Mesón scored 365 points playing at fullback from 1987-1997. Contepomi played at both center and fly half while Boffelli has played all his test career in the back-three, starting at both wing and fullback.

Boffelli is from Duendes in Rosario. Four current Pumas played for Duendes – Emiliano Boffelli, Santiago Chocobares, and Jerónimo de la Fuente, Juan Imhoff. They play for elite professional teams Edinburgh, Toulouse, Perpignan and Racing 92.
