All South American Jerseys for Rugby World Cup 2023

The South American countries will compete at Rugby World Cup 2023. The record number comes alongside a negative for the Americas as no North American country will compete. Neither Canada nor the USA were able to qualify.

Chile’s qualification not only sees a new competitors but sets up a South American battle. Chile vs Argentina is one to note down with keen interest. Never before have two South American countries gone head-to-head at a Rugby World Cup.

The uniforms of all three South American countries have now been finalized. While the Chilean uniforms are all about tradition they will be new to many viewers from around the world. Both Argentina and Uruguay will play in their traditional colors but they both also have an entirely new look for their alternate jerseys.

ARGENTINA

Argentina’s main strip is traditional. As one of the most famous jerseys in the game, Los Pumas have a long history of wearing the sky-blue and white stripped colors. This continues unchanged at Rugby World Cup 2023.

Argentina are expected to wear the uniforms in most matches;. However, in a change from past Rugby World Cups, Los Pumas should go at least one pool match without the traditional colors. Argentina’s pool contains two teams with a potential clash. Though not overly significant, the main strips of both England and Japan have plenty of white on them too.

Argentina’s alternate strip for Rugby World Cup 2023 is entirely new. The model pays tribute to Los Granaderos. It brings together the idea of Argentina’s independence and the passion of the players led by Julián Montoya and all those who have worn the shirt before them.

Shown below with Pablo Matera at the center, is the alternative Pumas shirt for Rugby World Cup 2023. The colors match that of Regimiento de Granaderos. Matera, Marcos Kremer and Tomás Lavanini are rugby players entrusted with representing their country with courage, pride and responsibility.

The alternate Pumas jerseys could very well be used as part of inspiration for Argentina’s opening match of the tournament. The match against England in Marseilles is a prime opportunity based on the famous rivalry between the teams and, of course, history. As noted, Japan is the other opponent in the pool which may play against Los Pumas wearing the Regimiento de Granaderos. However, ARN understands that Argentina will play in their traditional strip against England.

CHILE

Rugby World Cup debutants, Chile have a traditional red jersey as their man strip. It is the color that Los Cóndores wore in their historic win over Canada in the Rugby World Cup 2023 Qualifiers. They also did so in their home qualifying match against the USA.

Chile’s jersey color per match is yet to be made public. Chile could in theory play every match in red. The Pool contains Argentina, England, Japan, and Samoa. There are some cross-overs but Chile has a lot more red than does Japan. ARN understands that Chile will play in red against England.

Chile’s alternate jersey is predominantly white. Pictured below, the alternate uniform could in theory be used against any Pool D opponent. Indeed, with Chile being the only debutant at the tournament, wearing red in the opening match ought to be a priority. Chile’s opening match is against Japan in Toulouse.

Match two against Samoa in Bordeaux could well be the ideal fixture for Chile to wear white. Be that as it may, there is no certainty that Chile will play a match wearing white. Many teams have played every match in their traditional colors throughout a Rugby World Cup.

A change for Rugby World Cup 2023 is that World Rugby has implemented a policy that will see images friendly for color-blind viewers. Moreover, Chile played in white in away Rugby World Cup 2023 Qualifiers against Canada in Langford, BC and against the USA in Denver, CO.

URUGUAY

Uruguay traditionally plays in blue. While the jersey pictured below is blue and is the home jersey, it is to have a secondary role at Rugby World Cup 2023. Changes from World Rugby will see many teams playing with new-look colors.

World Rugby are seeking to avoid clashes for color-blind viewers. This has resulted in very different alternate uniforms. Australia will wear white in their match against Portugal while Uruguay finds itself playing one out of four matches in sky-blue.

Los Teros will play their fourth, and final, pool match in blue. The match will be against New Zealand in Lyon. It is the only scheduled appearance for Uruguay to take to the field in the traditional colors. Indeed, Uruguay will play in their traditional light sky blue shirt in only one match.

Uruguay’s norm has been sky-blue as the main strip and white as the alternate strip. Los Teros played in white against Australia at Rugby World Cup 2015 in Birmingham, England and again at Rugby World Cup 2019 in Oita, Japan.

For 2023 it is different; Los Teros’ main strip for Rugby World Cup 2023 will be yellow. The color yellow will represent the sun on the Uruguayan flag. Uruguay will open their World Cup campaign against France in Lille. Uruguay will wear yellow in that match and the next two games; namely against Italy in Nice and against Namibia in Lyon.
