National Pride and Independence at heart of Argentina 2023 Jerseys

National pride and independence are at the heart of Argentina’s 2023 rugby jerseys. Unveiled on Wednesday, Los Pumas showed what they will be wearing throughout the year.

In sticking to tradition, the UAR has retained the white and sky-blue hooped jersey as the main jersey. This has been the case for 96 years. Dating back to 1927, the traditional uniform will be worn for the bulk of activities throughout the year.

While the main jersey is one of Pumas tradition known throughout the world, the alternative jersey is a new look. The model pays tribute to Los Granaderos. It brings together the idea of Argentina’s independence and the passion of the players led by Julián Montoya and all those who have worn the shirt before them.

The UAR noted that when General Don José de San Martín came from Europe to Argentina, due to his extensive military knowledge, he was entrusted with the task of organizing the army and, at the same time, forming an elite squad.

San Martín did this by creating the Regimiento de Granaderos a Caballo (Regiment of Grenadiers on Horseback) on March 16, 1812. He instilled three principles that were non-negotiable: courage, pride and responsibility.

Matera, Marcos Kremer and Tomás Lavanini arededicated rugby players entrusted with representing their country with courage, pride and responsibility.

The Rugby World Cup jerseys have the altered badge on the players’ left side. Los Pumas are now with a Puma rather than a Jaguar. There is no UAR mark on it, though it is written below the Puma. Manufacturer Nike has its logo in the center and the World Cup and the World Rugby logo and name are on the players’ right side.

The uniforms for the Rugby Championship come with the Visa sponsorship logo. They also have the important difference of the UAR logo. The new logo is separated from the Puma. As such the UAR logo is positioned where the World Rugby logo will be during the World Cup.

Argentina will play in the same jerseys for their Rugby World Cup warm-up matches in Buenos Aires and Madrid. Pictured below, Emiliano Boffelli displays the regular jersey and Matías Alemanno is wearing the alternative.

Argentina’s first match of 2023 will be at home against New Zealand. The July 08 match in Mendoza is a sell-out. It will be Argentina’s first ever home test match against the All Blacks outside of Buenos Aires province.
