France Notes – Americas Player Transfers

The completion of the French professional season does not mean an end for all. While the on-field activities are over the process of preparing for the 2023-2024 season sees clubs busy with player transfers.

Tomás Lezana arrived at Montauban from Scarlets as a medical joker. His late season transfer turned out to be a win-win for player and club. Lezana helped Montauban avoid relegation down from the Pro D2. In his new deal Lezana will remain for three more years at Montauban. He and Francisco Gorrissen give the league two fully-capped Pumas flankers.

Meanwhile, Nicolás Solveyra is leaving Montauban. The prop is now unattached. Solveyra joined Montauban from Major League Rugby (MLR). His exit means Lezana and Segundo Tuculet are now the two remaining Argentines at the club.

Mont de Marsan have secured the services of Patricio Fernández. The former Pumas fly half arrives at the Pro D2 club from Perpignan. Fernández also previously played Top 14 for Lyon and Clermont. He was a champion with the latter. His move comes in search of added game-time; Fernández played just two matches this past season. Fellow Argentines Lucas Mensa, José Luis González and Leandro Cedaro have all left Mont de Marsan.

Canadian Matt Beukeboom is also a former Montauban player. This past season he played for Charente. He had 13 starts from 19 appearances. Beukeboom will not remain at the club next season. He is now listed as unattached.

Andrés Vilaseca will remain at Vannes. The Uruguayan captain recently signed a new deal to remain at the club for a further season. Vilaseca has a highly productive 2022-2023 Pro D2 season. He made 18 appearances. Many were together with Nicolás Freitas who has been in talks with Top 14 clubs.
