Semi Finalists Confirmed for Super Rugby Americas 2023

The four Semi Finalists have been confirmed for Super Rugby Americas 2023. The final four were made official with one match remaining in the penultimate round of the regular season. The four Semi Finalists are teams based in Uruguay, Paraguay and two Argentine sides.

Both Los Pampas and Yacare qualified during the penultimate round itself. Los Pampas did so by completing an upset win over top of the table Peñarol in Montevideo. Yacare secured their spot in the final four by upsetting Selknam in Santiago.

Peñarol and Los Dogos are the top two. The Uruguayans’ remaining regular season match is at home against Selknam next weekend. Los Dogos complete their regular season on Sunday evening at home against the American Raptors. Peñarol and Los Dogos will be the top two and will host Semi Finals.

The opposition for both Peñarol and Los Dogos will be determined in the final round. Los Pampas have home advantage against Yacare. The winning team will face the second-placed team away while the loser will face the winner away.

Peñarol will be hopping to face Yacare. The Uruguayans lost both of their regular season matches against Los Pampas. Moreover, Peñarol were otherwise undefeated in the regular season.

Peñarol is an entirely homegrown team. Every player is Uruguayan born and raised. All are products of the domestic system. Both Los Dogos and Los Pampas are entirely homegrown too. All of their players are Argentines. Yacare has a high ratio of players from abroad, a heavy contingent of Argentines with a sprinkling from Colombia.
