Women’s Eagles reach Semi Finals at Toulouse 7s

The USA has reached the Semi Finals of the Women’s draw at the Toulouse 7s. A 22-17 win over Fiji in the Quarter Final will see the the Eagles taking on Australia on Sunday for a spot in the Cup Final. Canada will play Spain for 9th place, with Brazil up against Poland for 9th.

Naya Tapper and Sabrina Poulin each grabbed a brace but it was Tapper’s second that proved the difference as the USA opened their tournament with a win over Canada. New Zealand, who have now clinched the overall World Series title, were too much in the second match. The third was a shutout win over invitational side Poland.

Canada rebounded from their loss to the Eagles with a similarly convincing win over the Polish, with Maddy Grant contributing two tries. New Zealand were a class apart which set up a 9th Place Semi Final against Brazil. As Yaras ran out to a 17-7 lead but the Maple Leafs fought back with three late tries to secure the victory.

Brazil had earlier been defeated handily by Australia, France, and Ireland in the Pool Stage. They managed just a single try in the three matches, scored by Gabriela Lima against Ireland.
