Beaudein Waaka returns to Free Jacks on long-term deal

The New England Free Jacks have confirmed the return of Beaudein Waaka on a long-term deal through the end of the 2025 Major League Rugby season. Last season’s MLR Player of the Year makes the move back to Boston after a stint in Japan with the Kobelco Steelers.

Waaka has been a starter for the Free Jacks since arriving ahead of the 2020 season. After playing fullback for the 2020 and 2021 campaigns, he switched to flyhalf in 2022 and led the team to a league record for wins in the regular season and an Eastern Conference final appearance.

With Jayson Potroz now settled in at flyhalf, it could be fullback where Waaka is again utilised though the former is also capable of playing in the No15 shirt. Waaka is expected to be available for the May 13 match against Old Glory DC in Leesburg.
