Santiago Chocobares is not going anywhere. The explosive center from Argentina will remain at Toulouse under a new contract until 2025. Toulouse originally signed Chocobares from Argentina in 2021. He was a French Champion in his debut season; Toulouse won the 2021 Top 14 Final.
Chocobares made his Super Rugby debut for Los Jaguares in 2020. He did so after having developed in the national High Performance system. This saw him play for Los Pumitas and advance to Los Jaguares. He made five appearances for the Argentine franchise before the 2020 Super Rugby season was suspended.
In 2000 he also made his test debut. He did so for Argentina in the 2020 Tri Nations. He started at inside center in the first and second matches. They were the historic win over New Zealand and the first of two draws against Australia. His debut cap brought him the rare feat of winning on debut against the All Blacks.
He was back again playing test rugby in 2021 but injuries saw Chocobares miss out on test duty for his country in 2022. He joins Jerónimo de la Fuente, Matías Moroni and Matías Orlando as Michael Cheika’s identified centers for Rugby World Cup 2023.
Chocobares comes from Rufino in Santa Fé province. He learned his rugby playing for Los Pampas in Rufino before continuing at Duendes in the city of Rosario. The same club produced his Pumas teammates Emiliano Boffelli, Jerónimo de la Fuente, and Juan Imhoff.
